The Lash House Newcastle, Adamstown NSW
The client's lash salon brief called for her love of black ceilings and cream-coloured walls - a pairing that would feel both moody and bright. The design plays with these two contrasting colours by layering a range of materials that have translucency, softness and reflectivity. Creamy sheer curtains filter the lobby with a welcoming sunny glow, while heavy opaque velvets add subtle sheen and shadows. Careful placement of lighting highlight the geometry of the new spaces, custom joinery, ceilings and wall niches; and polished brass and gold-toned marble cast subtle glints of light throughout.
The existing beauty salon tenancy was increased by joining an adjacent suite. Much consideration went into tying in the new space and finishes with the existing, to avoid wasting some of the salon's previous renovation, including a grey floor tile. To cohesively connect the old and new flooring, an offset tile pattern with brass trim was created at the centre of the two spaces. This became the new reception area highlighted by an illuminated natural quartzite marble desk. Retail shelving was added with new niches into an existing wall and an under-used side of the room was made into an inviting seating area. Additional treatment rooms were also added made flexible by opening up via double doors to double as a larger training room. Completed in January 2024.
